I believe that you do need a visa. There are only 27 countries in the Visa Waiver Program with the US that states that citizens from those countries only need a passport, not a visa, to visit the US, and South Africa is not one of them. yes you do you need to go to the american embassy in tokai theyll give you a website adress you need to then make an appointment online and after that you have to pay R600 into their account..unfortunately you can only make the appointment online.. Be sure to take your south african passport with when you go for your interview if you do get approved youll have to pay something like R50 and hand in your passport so that they can stick your us visa in there it normally takes two days for your passport to get back to you they do it through fed ex. if you have a US passport and are travelling on holidays, they give you a visa for 90 days when you get there. no big deal. you do need to show your return ticket. have fun, its a great place
