SA is a country that has been occupied one way or another for the last few hundred years - http://www.sahistory.org.za/pages/mainframe.htm

BUT in 1994 had an historical election where everyone for the first time was allowed to vote which led to a government that finally is representative of the majority - what makes South Africa even more special was that this took place peacefully with a great deal of dignity (a lot due to the guidance of a great man called Nelson Mandela)http://www.anc.org.za/people/mandela.html

It is a very beautiful and diverse country made up of many different races and that is why it is called the "Rainbow Nation" there are also 11 official languages. The crime rate is high mostly due to the unemployment rate which is very high - over 30% but South Africans are moving forward to overcome these odds - they will be hosting the Football/soccer world cup in 2010 which has led to an optimism for more job creation and investment. http://www.southafrica.info/2010/

It is one of the most beautiful and interesting countries in the world - their tourism industry is pretty polished

so I would end off by saying GO , GO, GO as your expectations whatever they are will be met - and even though there are not lions in our backyards we sure do have a lot of them...this place is 20 minutes drive from our parents house... http://www.lion-park.com/
